I came to the beauty world by way of the culinary world. Interesting pivot, right?

It was around the time of the pandemic, and I was literally throwing in my towel and saying goodbye to my food business. I was in my late 50s, craving creativity, and rethinking what I wanted the next chapter of my life to look like. One of my daughters suggested I try becoming a lash tech. I got certified, but there was just one problem - my eyesight. It’s not the best, so needless to say, lash extensions were short-lived.

Still, I was hooked. I’d been bitten by the creative process. So, I pivoted again, this time to brows. That came with its own challenges (I’m needle-phobic!), but I pushed through. My very first permanent makeup client cried tears of joy when she saw her new brows. That moment changed everything for me.

I began to see brow work as more than cosmetic - it was sacred, healing even. For many of my clients, it touched something deeper: a sense of confidence, of being seen. That shifted everything. I wanted to understand more, to support more.

From that point on, I became drawn to the skin not just as a canvas, but as a mirror of the nervous system, emotions, and lived experience.

Eventually, I took on an esthetics apprenticeship and began exploring how skincare could be more than surface-level. That’s when I discovered the somatic approach - slower, deeper, more intuitive. It resonated with everything I had learned (and unlearned) through my own life.

Curam, formerly JW Brow Aesthetics, is the result of that evolution. It’s where traditional technique meets nervous system attunement. Where skincare becomes a practice of presence, not just appearance.

And yes, I still offer brow services, including PMU. Now, I approach brows with the same intentionality I bring to skin: as an extension of your whole self. It’s not just about symmetry or pigment…it’s about how you feel in your face.
